Heirloom & Investment
Not only is rough diamond jewellery unique, exciting and original, rough diamonds also represent a superb investment opportunity, both now and in the future.Diamonds in their rough form command lower prices than in their cut, polished state. Therefore, if you so wish, it is possible to have your rough diamond cut into at some point in the future to reveal its hidden value.
Whilst it is possible to gauge the QUALITY of a rough diamond, it is only possible to estimate the final carat weight of the cut, polished diamond that could potentially be derived from the rough stone (ie its "yield").
A rough diamond will generally be able to yield anywhere between 30-50% of its rough diamond starting weight, depending upon the type of rough diamond it is - click here for more details.
EXAMPLE
For the purposes of this example, let's assume a potential yield of 40%.
We can assume that a 3.00ct, "makeable one", rough diamond is likely to yield a cut, polished round brilliant cut diamond of approx 1.20ct.
Let's also assume that the diamond has an approximate diamond quality of Colour F, Clarity VS.
A 3.00ct uncut rough diamond of F/VS quality to purchase from Rough ROK would be priced in the region of £5,000.
A 1.20ct round brilliant cut, polished diamond of F/VS quality would have an insurable value of around £12,500, thus giving you a return of 250%.
